Retirement Legislation Recap – 2025 Legislative Session Concludes

The 2025 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature adjourned on Thursday, June 12. LASERS tracked several retirement-related measures throughout the session, and below is a summary of the most recent legislative activity.

The following measures completed the legislative process this week:

  • HB 8 by Rep. Glorioso – This bill allows a member of the Municipal Employees’ Retirement System (MERS) to retain their membership in lieu of joining LASERS. The LASERS Board is neutral on this bill.
  • HB 63 by Rep. Green – This bill proposes a constitutional amendment that would require judges to retire upon reaching age 75, if approved by voters on April 18, 2026. The LASERS Board is neutral on this bill.
  • HB 307 by Rep. Henry – This bill requires non-U.S. citizens requesting public assistance to be reported to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The LASERS Board is neutral on this bill.
  • HB 460 by Rep. McFarland – This supplemental appropriations bill for Fiscal Year 2024-2025 includes a $7,594 allocation to LASERS to help reduce the system’s unfunded accrued liability. The LASERS Board supports this bill.
