Annual & Sick Leave

Annual and sick leave will be earned by full- and part-time employees who perform regular duty and earn service credit, except employees serving on WAE appointments.

Annual Leave: leave for the purpose of rest and relaxation, to attend to personal matters whenever possible, and for qualifying events as defined by the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA).

Sick Leave: leave with pay granted an employee who is suffering with a disability which prevents him from performing his usual duties and responsibilities or who requires medical, dental, or optical consultation or treatment. Earning of leave is based on years of state service and is credited at the end of each regular pay period.

Additional information about annual and sick leave and other forms of leave can be provided by the Human Resources Division.

Paid Holidays

The list of paid holidays is located here on our website.

The Governor may proclaim other holidays as deemed appropriate.

As a LASERS employee, you are a member of the LASERS pension plan.

Your contribution rate is set by statute at 8.0% of your annual salary for employees hired on/after July 1, 2006. The state’s contribution to your retirement (paid by LASERS) is determined annually and is based on an actuarial formula provided by law. Your contribution is deducted from your paycheck every two weeks.

Additional information can be found in the LASERS Member’s Guide to Retirement.

Deferred Compensation Plan

The Louisiana Deferred Compensation Plan is an IRS Section 457 deferred compensation plan that allows public employees to participate in a tax-sheltered program. Deferred compensation is income that the employee chooses not to receive in the payroll period in which it is earned. This plan is offered as a benefit to LASERS employees, and participation is optional. Additional information can be obtained through the Human Resources Division.

LASERS offers a choice of health benefits plans to full-time employees. The choices may include a Health Maintenance Organization, Consumer Driven Health Plan or Preferred Provider Organization. LASERS pays a portion of the Group Benefits premium and the employee pays the remainder. Details are available through the Human Resources Division.

Coverage from companies that are not a part of the Group Benefits Plan is available to LASERS employees provided that the company is on the vendor list approved by the Division of Administration.

An IRS Section 125 cafeteria plan, which allows employees to pay for a portion of their insurance coverage with pre-tax dollars, is available to LASERS employees. Employees are automatically enrolled once they enroll in health benefits.

LASERS offers a basic level of group life insurance coverage. LASERS pays a portion of the premium cost, and the employee pays the remainder. Life insurance coverage is available to all full-time employees. More information can be obtained through the Human Resources Division.

LASERS is an equal opportunity employer.

As such, LASERS offers equal employment opportunities without regard to race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, gender identity, and sexual orientation), national origin, age, disability, genetic information, or veteran status.

Holiday Closure Notice: LASERS will be closed on Monday, July 4 for Independence Day.
